Youth Volunteering Activities

Youth Volunteering with RAICES

There are a number of youth volunteer activities available with RAICES. They are listed below. To learn more about completing an application, visit our home volunteer page.

San Antonio Bus Station Program Data Entry

The San Antonio Bus Station Project provides aid, resources, and information to asylum-seeking families and individuals who arrive at the downtown San Antonio Greyhound station. As part of this project, we complete intake forms and input them into a digital database to track information about these families and individuals that is useful to understand the current state of immigrant detention and the asylum process; this includes information regarding where they’re coming from, where they may have been detained, if they’ve been separated from family members, and more. Youth volunteers can assist this program by completing inputting the intakes into our digital database. This is a biweekly activity.

Requirements:

  • Be a high school or college student
  • Complete a background check
  • Complete a Volunteer Orientation
  • Bring a laptop (preferred, but optional)

San Antonio Refugee Resettlement Donation Room Organizing

Our Refugee Resettlement collects important donations to be distributed to the refugee families that we serve in San Antonio. It is vital that we keep this donation room organized, orderly, and that we inventory the items that are in the room. Youth volunteers can assist with organizing the donations and inventorying items. This is a biweekly activity.

Requirements:

  • Be a middle school, high school, or college student
  • Complete a Volunteer Orientation.

San Antonio Refugee Family Donation Pack Preparation

Our Refugee Resettlement Program welcomes refugee families arriving in San Antonio from various parts of the world. These families often arrive in San Antonio will little to nothing, so it is important for RAICES to prepare packs of donations to give the refugee families when they arrive. Youth volunteers can assist with preparing donation packs for the families we will be serving. This activity takes place the last Saturday of each month.

Requirements:

  • Be a middle school, high school, or college student
  • Complete a Volunteer Orientation.

Youth/Student Group Volunteering

At RAICES we are dedicated to providing youth and students with educational and meaningful volunteer opportunities. If you are part of a group of youth or a student group/organization, there is now a way to get your group involved; teachers and faculty leaders can also sign up their classes or student groups to volunteer. We accept groups consisting of youth that are either in middle school, in high school, or in undergraduate programs. Please note that we only have Youth/Student Group volunteer opportunities in San Antonio, TX at this time and we are able to coordinate opportunities for groups visiting San Antonio, too. If qualified, youth/student groups will be scheduled for volunteer activities listed above or other activities that arise.
