After struggling under past administrations, being promised false hope, characterized as the villains, yet continuing to contribute to our society, the immigrant community is once again being forgotten. The Biden Administration is signaling that there will not be any bold action to the immigration and asylum process. Meanwhile, Republican officials and the media are talking about a so-called “border crisis” while providing no humanitarian solutions or relief.

We have seen the narrative around immigration in this country change over the years. We tend to see these changes come and go with administrations and which political party is in power, but the stories are still the same. Immigrants deserve to have their humanity respected and prioritized, and as long as the Department of Homeland Security leads on immigrant reception, there will be imprisonment instead of a humane and hygienic welcome.
