The Danger of a Single Story

“Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie uses personal anecdotes to show that when our perceptions of people are one-sided, it leads to 'othering' and/or pitying someone rather than seeing their full humanity. She also states that who tells the story and who is centered in the story greatly affects how we see groups and individuals. This TED talk very much relates to the rhetoric we see surrounding immigration in the United States as we often only hear and base our understanding of immigrants on a single story.”
