U.S. immigration enforcement is turning away thousands of refugees anda sylum seekers at the border because of racist Trump-era policies that President Biden should have ended on his first day in office. This is unacceptable.
The Migrant Protection Protocol, also known as the “Remain in Mexico” policy, forces migrants to stay in Mexico in makeshift camps indefinitely while the U.S. government reviews their immigration cases. Title 42 stokes anti-immigrant fear and hate by supercharging expulsions and deportations based on the racist idea that immigrants carry and spread disease. President Biden is legitimizing and sanctioning these hateful policies by continuing to enforce them. Both policies endanger the lives of migrant families and children at the border and prevent them from exercising their legal right to seek asylum.
We cannot sit back and let this happen. We must demand that the Biden Administration act swiftly to protect asylum seekers and restore asylum in the United States by putting an end to Remain in Mexico and Title 42 once and for all. Now is the time to remind Pres. Biden that refusing to end Trump’s Remain in Mexico and Title 42 policies is the fastest way to lose the support of the Black, Brown and ally communities who gave Democrats the trifecta in 2020.
The more tweets we send, the louder our voices become to raise the alarm and ramp up the pressure on the Biden Administration to end Remain in Mexico and Title 42 immediately.
