Hello. My name is [YOUR NAME] and I live in [YOUR STATE].
I am calling to demand that [Senator or Congressmember] block any vote to extend Title 42 past May 23rd as proposed by the Biden administration. As doctors and public health experts have made clear, immigration is not a source of pandemic spread.
Title 42 has never been about public health, but rather to turn away Black and Brown migrants, deny their chance to rightfully seek asylum, and expose them to dangerous physical violence and exploitation.
Repealing Title 42 is not a question of public health or resources, it is simply the right and moral thing to do.
Can I count on [insert Representative name] to ensure the end of Title 42 and help restore our asylum system?
Thank you for your time.
Democrats are working with Republicans in Congress to disrupt the end of Title 42.
Democratic Senators Kyrsten Sinema, Mark Kelly, Maggie Hassan, Jon Tester, and Joe Manchin co-sponsored a Republican bill to block the Biden administration’s plan to scale-down expulsions at the border on May 23rd. Their attempt to keep Title 42 on the books is not about public health but instead to stoke fear and xenophobia ahead of this year’s Midterm Elections, and gain political favor with right-wing extremists. We cannot let this happen.
The Centers for Disease Control has already stated that it will not renew Title 42 because immigration is not a source of pandemic spread. Any and all attempts to extend this policy are blatantly racist actions aimed at preventing Black and Brown people from seeking safety in the U.S.
With the end of Title 42, communities and organizations at the border and across the country are ready to help restore our asylum system and welcome people seeking safety with open arms. Repealing Title 42 is not a question of public health or resources; it is simply the right and moral thing to do.
Call your Democratic representatives in Congress to tell them to BLOCK any vote to extend Title 42.
