“Immediately end this immoral and inhumane policy for everyone arriving at the border.”

San Antonio, TX – In response to the news that the Biden administration terminated Title 42 for unaccompanied migrant children, Tami Goodlette, Director of Litigation at RAICES, released the following statement:

“We are relieved that the Biden administration stepped in to end Title 42 for unaccompanied children coming to our border seeking safety. Terminating Title 42 for minors was the only moral course of action in response to a Texas Judge’s inhumane ruling to block children from accessing asylum under this Trump-era policy.

“Title 42 is inhumane, deadly, and endangers migrants who are legally seeking asylum. This policy was never about public health, but rather is shrouded in racism and xenophobia, as public health experts have made clear that immigration is not a source of pandemic spread. Despite the CDC’s lessening of pandemic restrictions across the country, Title 42 is still being used to expel immigrants fleeing violence and denying them the right to seek refuge in our country. It’s time for President Biden to keep his promise of protecting immigrant communities and immediately end this immoral and inhumane policy for everyone arriving at the border.”
