Our client Juan Reyna should be with his family this holiday season, not behind bars.
Juan has been held in prolonged ICE detention ever since Border Patrol arrested him on his way to work in January. He has been separated from his family for months and unable to support his stepchildren — who were born in the U.S. — during the COVID-19 pandemic and at a pivotal time in their lives.
It’s clear that Juan doesn’t meet DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ new enforcement priorities criteria1, yet ICE refuses to release him. Juan even submitted an application for relief, but the court denied it because he filed it in his first language—Spanish. That is unacceptable.
That’s why we’re calling on the RAICES community to advocate for Juan’s immediate release from detention — just as we did with Ubaldo and Yacouba earlier this year. Juan and his family have struggled and suffered enough this year. Let’s make sure they can be together this holiday season. Will you sign this petition urging DHS Sec. Mayorkas to free Juan Reyna now?
