Advocates take Biden administration to court over horrific conditions at Pecos child detention center

On August 9, 2021, Counsel in Flores v. Garland, relying on evidence from RAICES CEO Jonathan Ryan, made allegations of poor conditions and treatment to the Flores court. The Flores Settlement Agreement governs the detention of immigrant children at the Emergency Intake Site detention center in Pecos, Texas and requires the government to maintain minimum standards for the children’s care and custody.

RAICES staff and children formerly and currently detained at Pecos report medical neglect, raw chicken served at mealtimes, and other disturbing inhumane conditions.
