Tell DHS Sec. Mayorkas: Free pregnant mothers and children in detention
It’s been two months since RAICES, Cameroon American Council, Haitian Bridge Alliance, and UndocuBlack Network filed a complaint with Biden’s DHS demanding an investigation into Karnes Family Prison and other immigration prisons where reports of abuse and medical neglect of Black pregnant mothers and babies were on the rise. Now, we’re turning up the pressure and demanding that Sec. Mayorkas not only investigate these abusive institutions, but also go one step further by freeing mothers and children from detention and shutting down Karnes.
If we use our voices to raise the alarm and keep the pressure on, we can force Sec. Mayorkas to take bold action. Add your name now.
The petition to Secretary of the Department of Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas reads:
“At Karnes Family Prison and other immigration prisons, reports of extreme medical neglect and abuse of Black pregnant mothers and infants are rampant. Sec. Mayorkas, we’re calling on you to immediately investigate these reports and go one step further by freeing all pregnant mothers and infants from detention and shutting down Karnes Family Prison.”
