A Webinar by the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) and RAICES
By now, many of us have learned about how police and prisons are tools of white supremacy to oppress Black people and people of color. Over the years, many laws and policies have been created in order to criminalize and incarcerate as many marginalized communities as possible. Coming into contact with the criminal legal system can wreak havoc on people’s lives, and can often lead to the threat of deportation for noncitizens. The intersection between the criminal and immigration systems is complex, which can create confusion for noncitizens who have been arrested by local law enforcement.
This introductory webinar will map key points throughout the criminal legal process, and help organizers and community members identify how and where federal immigration enforcement authorities may get involved. For our allies in the criminal justice space, this information can help you advocate for noncitizens in your community. Interpretation will be available in Spanish.
