Statement: Trump Declares New Attacks on DACA Recipients

San Antonio, TX– Today the Trump administration announced a renewed attempt to end DACA and continue to defy the Supreme Court’s order, leaving thousands of DACA recipients at risk of deportation. Acting Secretary of Homeland Security, Chad Wolf, announced that they will reject all initial requests under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and limit renewals to one-year terms while it reviews the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that preserved the program.

After years of relentless attacks on immigrant youth, the Trump administration’s most recent assault is nothing new. This announcement follows Trump’s failed attempt to revoke the program on September 5,2017. It is clear that Trump is fixated on terrorizing the immigrant community and will not be thwarted by the Supreme Court. His hate for our immigrant community runs deep.

“Ending DACA was always a part of Trump’s plan to grow his deportation force. His administration will talk about pushing Congress to pass legislation for DACA recipients to have permanent protection, while using DACA as a bargaining chip to secure increased funding and resources for his deportation forces. We must not fall for Trump’s political tricks and lies, and we will not allow DACA to be used as leverage to increase the surveillance, arrest, detention and deportation of un-DACAmented immigrants.” said Erika Andiola, Chief Advocacy Officer at RAICES.

“The Trump administration decided to end this program as a way to use immigrant youth as a bargaining chip to enact its racist immigration agenda,” said Juana Guzman, DACA recipient and Texas Grassroots Organizer for RAICES. “We will not let this happen. DACA recipients will not trade our parents and community members for our safety.”

We continue to demand and remain committed to fighting for the protection and safety of our immigrant community which includes DACA recipients, migrants at the border, Black immigrants, and separated and detained families.
