On November 20, the National Bail Fund Network joined with RAICES to post over $2 million in immigration bond to free almost 200 people from immigration detention. This is one of the largest single days of freedom coordinated by community bond funds.
On any given day in the U.S., there are over 50,000 people in immigration detention, including children. In the last several months, 55,000+ asylum seekers have been returned to Mexico to wait in dangerous conditions. This day of action has cleared the RAICES backlog of cases seeking help obtaining freedom through bond.
We know that posting bond for an immigrant is the fastest and one of the most effective ways to improve their situation. Not only does it reunify families but it also improves a person’s chance to successfully plead their case in immigration court. Every day, community bond funds raise money to free our friends and neighbors from immigration detention and make sure they are able to pursue their case from a place of freedom.
