This is the True Crisis At The Border

This morning Trump signed a government funding bill that provides $1.375 billion for his proposed border wall, rather than the $5.7 billion he has been pushing for. After signing the bill, he declared the “crisis at the southern border” a National Emergency. He even admitted live on TV that this is a fake emergency by saying: “I didn’t need to do this” to build his wall.

By declaring a national emergency, the president hopes to circumvent Congress and take the full funding for this racist and destructive structure.

This power grab is unconstitutional.

Fifty-six percent of Americans do not support a wall along the Southern Border. The results of the 2018 midterm elections show a rejection of Trump’s fear-mongering about immigrants and immigration. Because he has such little support from the public for this wall, he has resorted to this misuse of power in an attempt to build a physical symbol of a racist policy.

While this administration has gone above and beyond to implement inhumane policies, they’ve now manufactured a crisis impacting thousands of migrants caught in the middle.

In the video below, you will meet Ana — another victim of the real crisis happening at the border, a man-made humanitarian crisis.

Ana is only ten years old. We met her this week in Piedras Negras, where she is locked in an old factory with 2,000 fellow migrants.

You can help Ana and children like her by taking action right now. Keep the president from taking away civil rights and liberties by signing this petition. Once we reach 75,000 signatures, we’ll send it to Congress asking them to revoke Trump’s national emergency declaration.

This type of executive power was used by Franklin Roosevelt to round up Japanese Americans in internment camps during World War II. It was used by George W. Bush after the 9/11 attacks to wiretap, spy on, and target Muslim Americans. With this emergency status invoked, Trump can now use unchecked special powers to disproportionately attack the most vulnerable among us.

Please sign this petition. Contact your representatives. Let them know that you do not support Trump’s use of a national emergency to fund a border wall. Be heard!
