RAICES provides opportunities for volunteers and attorneys to contribute pro bono work to our projects. For over two decades, volunteers have been an essential part of RAICES’ service to the community. RAICES has hosted long- term volunteers from the Mennonite Voluntary service as well as law school student interns. In addition, RAICES currently partners with pro bono attorneys from law firms, solo and small-firm law practices in the San Antonio area and from throughout south and central Texas. We are always looking for dedicated individuals willing to donate their time and efforts to our mission. Currently we are seeking volunteers for the following positions: Pro Bono Attorneys: RAICES welcomes lawyers who volunteer their direct services or consulting expertise in areas of law that affect out clients’ immigration matters, such as family law and criminal law. Because the numbers of low income and indigent people in need of representation before Immigration Courts and tribunals is always greater than the resources available, RAICES provides mentoring as well as technical support to members of the private bar who agree to represent these vulnerable members of the community, including long-time Texas residents who are fighting separation from their families, newly arrived immigrants seeking safety from persecution and torture in their countries of origin, and children fleeing abuse or abandonment. Internships: RAICES also appreciates law students and will work with applicants to design fellowship proposals as well as provide supervision to those whose work may qualify for credit hours under their university or law school’s internship program. |
